Pastor Bill Wrede was born and raised in Ludington, Michigan, a small resort community on the shore of Lake Michigan. Pastor Bill received his bachelor’s degree from Concordia College (now University) in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1982. For three years, he served in the Oklahoma District working with youth and music. After briefly attending Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, he served as an interpreter for the deaf in the public school system and taught sign language at the Seminary. Reenrolling at the Seminary in 1996, Seminarian Wrede served his vicarage (pastoral internship) for six months in Los Angeles and six months in Washington, D.C. Pastor Wrede’s call upon graduating in 2000 was to serve as Mission Field Developer for the Deaf in New York City with ministry stations at the Mill Neck School for the Deaf on Long Island, Saint Mark Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Manhattan (Harlem), and Saint Matthew Lutheran Church of the Deaf in Queens (Elmhurst). From 2011-2021, Pastor Wrede was the Director of Recruitment and Admissions at Concordia Seminary. In 2021, he was trained in intentional interim ministry and has served in Albany, New York; Denison, Iowa; and Vacaville, California.
